Your order is combined
with supporting documents to form an "order package".
That package travels by high speed "train" between
floors on a vertical track.
First stop is "order
entry". Your data is entered in our proprietary expediting
database. The screens, data tables and reports were all designed
for unmitigated speed and simplicity.
The most critical
step is the package review. Sales support people attack each
package with an attitude that "there's an error in here
some where and I'm going to find it". Thankfully, there
are precious few errors but it pays to be vigilant.
As the package whizzes
towards production, confirming emails are zapped to internal
groups to monitor progress.
Not too much later,
finished product arrives in bale type units for immediate trailer
assignment at one of seven outgoing bays.
It helps to have
your own truck fleet, this one happens to be managed by a Sutherland.
Peter's ship schedule is dictated by your requirements, not
ours. Pete's mandate to get to your door on time sends tremors
upstream to production. The job is "pulled" rather
than pushed through the plant.
