Value-added Thumbtacks

This customer wields a mighty purchasing bat, buying hundreds of thousands of dollars in corrugated a year. wpe24.gif (3256 bytes)They are primarily a "commodity buyers" demanding little more than base line functionality from their cartons at the lowest possible price.

We first caught their attention while designing a solution for their thumb tack product line. That led to a tour of our facility that furthered the point that even thumb tacks should be value-added. Since that tour they have been working with us on identifying new opportunities for them on the strength of our merchandising support. That moment arrived when, with our help, they successfully pitched their stationary line to Sam's.

The first ultimatum was to provide presentation samples for a meeting at Sam's headquarters in Arkansas. We responded with an e/c flute combination. Preliminary results were emailed back to design where finalized prototypes were completed and hand delivered to the customer's graphic artist the next day. By the end of the following day, it was a "go" with samples to Sam's for a photo shoot.

But first they had to convince the notoriously fickle chain buyers. We worked closely with the account to fully refine the artwork to be used in their sales presentations. Drawings zinged back and forth between desktops to finalize color, tone, text, scale and placement. Cost and time were minimized by staying digital. 3D renderings were used to simulate what the prospective store buyers would see on the shelf.
